It seems that the end of 2020 also brings a eight year journey to an end. Cyberpunk 2077, created by CD Projekt, is a game that feels we have been hearing about for ages. Journey into the futuristic world of Night City as you try to survive an dystopian nightmare where stunning visuals and danger wait around every corner.
After making your character (the level of choices is astounding) you pick your path and explore the city.
It seems the only way to survive in Night City is to do illegal things and make sure you have a weapon at all time. A job to steal a biochip goes horribly wrong and the player is betrayed and left for dead. This is not the end of the story, as you find that the chip you were sent to steal might be the key to immortality. It also has something to do with Johnny Silverhand, a rock star who might not be as dead as the world believes.
Cyberpunk is jaw dropping to look at. Night City feels totally alive and you might spend time just wandering the city instead of advancing the story. In regards to the plot, it seems like like random encounters, but the story really picks up in the second half. The gameplay opens the world as you do main quests and side quests. You can add skills and unlock different vendors to get even more updates. There is a lot of detail here, one example is that you need to have an implant in order to understand characters who do not speak your language.
There has been a lot said about the various bugs in the game, most notable in the last generation game systems. while my copy was on the computer, I do understand the frustrations. The developer is fixing issues with patches. My advice is if you want to play the game on console, wait until February when most of the bugs will probably be patched out.
The expectations for Cyberpunk 2077 were so high it might be hard for any game to match them. This is not a next step in action RPG, but it is one of the best of that genre. The bugs did hurt, but the foundation of the game is solid and the actors and visuals will definitely catch your eye. In a year, we might be saying that this might be the start of a whole new franchise.
