Though gaming has evolved in a way almost unbelievable during the 1980s, ’90s, and even the early 2000s, there is a need to go back to where it all began for both long-time gamers and novices of the entertainment media. Thanks to the advancements in technology developers and gaming studios have been able to give retro-enthused gamers a chance to take a trip down memory lane or attain a blast from the past with things like mini-consoles and game collections from the crème de la crème of certain eras. This has also brought forth a bunch of high-definition remasters of games from days gone by. Heralded as one of the greatest gaming consoles ever, Sony’s Playstation 2 housed some of the most fantastic games & franchises including the foundation of what would become the “Persona” series, “Shin Megami Tensei”.
“SMT’s” third entry was the first to appear on the PS2 and garnered praise for being so unabashed in regards to its difficulty & storytelling. Fast forward almost twenty years later and the “SMT” spin-off series “Persona” has found a market in the west it predecessors never gained. Wanting to see what inspired their new favorite RPG series, fans requested ports of Atlus’ past RPGs including “Persona 4: Golden” and, now, the first “Shin Megami” game to arrive on the PS2. Instead of simply porting a PS2 classic, Atlus has gone to work to remaster the experience for modern TVs. It’s time to eat a bunch of weird food, negotiate with a demon, and gather some first impressions of “Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster”.
