The minds behind Koei Tecmo have become the masters of “musou” experiences. The hack & slash sub-genre featuring one or two playable characters taking on dozens of enemies at a time on an expansive battlefield has stood the test of time since the Playstation 1 era. After the success of “Dynasty Warriors” – a musou game focusing on historical events in China – the Koei Tecmo developers shifted their narrative focus to Japan; giving birth to “Samurai Warriors” in 2004. But as with any franchise the feeling of staleness can cause both developers and fans to want something more. Instead of simply expanding on what’s been done time and time again, Koei Tecmo went to work on crafting a “Samurai Warriors” game that could help gain new fans to the series while delivering the same wild battles long-time players have come to know and love. Get ready to sharpen your sword blade to cut through these first impressions of “Samurai Warriors 5”.
