Welcome to the SummerSlam Review for July 30, 2022.
Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch (Raw Championship Match)
Last year’s match between these two left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth. This time, Belair and Lynch put on an instant classic. Belair was the powerhouse, using her strength for hard hits and catching Lynch diving off the top rope with ease. Lynch used her technical skill, trying to use everything, including Belair’s braid, to gain the advantage. In the end, Belair got the pin and Lynch accepted defeat. The return of Bayley, Dakota Kai and Io Shirai post match showed Belair does not need to look far for her next challenger.
Belair pinned Lynch to retain the RAW Championship.
Logan Paul vs. The Miz
We might be getting a little spoiled in regards to celebrities wrestling, as the last few years have produced some real great wrestling. Paul was great, showing that the training videos were not just for show. Miz was perfect, the arrogant heel underestimating his opponent’s skill. Paul hit some great moves, capped by a Five Star Frog Splash through the announce table. The pin afterwards was merely a formality.
Paul pinned The Miz
Austin Theory vs. Bobby Lashley (US Championship)
I can not think of a time when one wrestler has so many feuds going. Theory seems to be against everybody. He knew that his only chance was a sneak attack with the briefcase and he took it. This shook Lashley, but once the big man got his feet back under him, Theory was in big trouble. Lashley locked in The Hurt Lock and we will see if Theory’s night ends with him holding a different set of gold.
Lashley made Theory submit to retain the US Championship.
The Mysterios vs. Judgment Day (No DQ Match)
Rey and Dominik were looking for some payback against Judgement Day. There was a lot of action in this match as Balor and Priest were looking to hurt the father and son duo. A strange thing happened as tags were still enforced even though this was no disqualification. There were some brutal spots, like Rey sliding with a chair, but the big difference came in a returting Edge, Brood theme and all. This allowed The Mysterios to get the pin and finally avenge weeks of torture.
The Mysterios pinned Judgment Day.
Pat McAfee vs. Baron Corbin
Pat has been one of the forerunners for “this athlete can wrestle”. After sneak attacks by Corbin for the past few weeks, he finally got his hands on his tormentor. There were some great spots, but a drop kick by Corbin looked as if it really rattled Pat. A Deep Six by Corbin almost sealed the deal, but Pat was able to shake it off, kick a low blow while the referee was done, and get the pin.
McAfee pinned Corbin.
The Usos vs. The Street Profits (Tag Team Championships)
This match could have gone either way. Jeff Jarrett was wearing the stripes and The Usos and The Street Prophets were at the top of their game. Dawkins was even able to show that he has some hops too. The match went back and forth as the crowd chanted “This is awesome.” In the end, a 1D to Dawkins led to the Usos retaining.
The Usos pinned the Street Profits to retain.
Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey (SmackDown Championship)
Liv Morgan held the title, but there is always a big difference between cashing in after a match and fighting straight up. Especially if your opponent is Ronda Rousey. rousey was looking for submissions as expected, but Liv busted out a few of her own including The Rings of Saturn. At the end, Rousey mad Liv submit, but Liv also pinned Rousey which was counted by the referee. Rousey went ballistic after the match, attacking Morgan and the referee
Morgan pinned Rousey to retain The Smackdown Championship.
Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns (Last Man Standing)(Championship Match)
Last Man Standing matches will be brutal, but the real story is what kind of shenanigans will occur during the match. Lesnar jumped from the top of tractor(??) to kick things off. Both men went back and forth until Brock used the tractor to pick up the ENTIRE RING!! Theory came out, Heyman took and F-5 and somehow Reigns was able to bury Lesnar to win the match
Roman Reigns was the Last Man Standing to retain the WWE Championship.
