It is that time of year again: summer blockbuster season. These past few years have been filled to the brim with larger-than-life spectacles and action thrill-rides. 2018 is no exception, with many top-tier franchises striking back with full force. Here’s our top picks for this summer’s most anticipated summer blockbusters…

 

5) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22th) – The world of Jurassic Park returns with the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Taking place four years after the events of 2015’s Jurassic World, this fifth installment will bring the audience back to the fictional island of Isla Nublar for another prehistoric adventure, with returning characters from both Jurassic World and the 1990 original.

 

4) Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6th) – In the wake of the legendary superhero film Avengers: Infinity WarAnt-Man and the Wasp lowers the narrative scale for a more personal journey for the titular hero and heroine. In comparison to the heist film elements seen in the previous movie, the dynamic relationship between Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne will be the main focus this time around.

 

3) The Incredibles 2 (June 15th) – After a 14 year wait, the sequel to Pixar’s superhero film The Incredibles will finally release in theaters. Taking place immediately after the first film, the sequel will continue the adventures of the Parr family as they simultaneously battle a new supervillain named Screenslaver and adjust to a new family lifestyle. All of the beloved characters from the original including Frozone and Edna Mode are set to return.

 

2) Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th) – Ready for more expansion of the Star Wars mythos? This spin-off film will serve as the origin story of Rebel Alliance general and Millennium Falcon owner Han Solo and his companion Chewbacca, years before the events of A New Hope. It will be show Han’s gradual descent from Imperial academy cadet to infamous smuggler in a dark and dangerous galactic criminal underworld.

 

1) Deadpool 2 (May 18th) – The Merc with a Mouth is returning for a second cinematic outing for more bloody and raunchy shenanigans. This time, he will tangle with the likes of time-travelling cyborg Cable and form a team of new mutants named the X-Force.
