Summer is finally upon us and the time to binge watch some of our favorite shows. Or re binge if you have a particular favorite. I started to think about some of the anime that is just as watchable the second time around. Here is a list of five of my go to anime that I re-watch when the days are long and hot.

                                                                                 Dragon Ball Z

Some of you might be shouting “Dragon Ball will take over the entire summer!” I am not saying the entire series, just to the end of the Frieza saga. While the show continued, and for the most part succeeded after that story line, the episodes in this period just seem tighter. The action scenes are some of the best of any fighting series and the character list was small enough you didn’t need a scorecard to keep track of everyone. Plus, the stakes felt more real, and people dying seemed permanent. The final battle as the planet Namek is falling apart is still just as awesome as the first time.

Trigun

Is it a western comedy? Or a sci-fi tragedy? Whatever Vash and his group are called, it is some of the best character driven shows I have seen. From the two insurance ladies who try and stop any destruction to the strange priest with the gun cross, the characters are crazy, but also real. This goes for the Human Typhoon himself. One minute, he is a lovable idiot, the next he has become the ultimate gunslinger. If you have not seen this one, I promise you will have no idea where the story goes.

Case Closed

A show that is still going as of this writing. I love a good mystery and the adventures of Detective Conan brings the fun of being a detective. It seems that the initial story line, Conan trying to find a way to reverse the poison that turned him into a kid, was abandoned very early on. You would think that knowing the outcome might damper a re-view, but the show is so good you barely notice. My personal favorite is “Moonlight Sonata” one of the creepiest episodes in a non horror show.

Supernatural

The newest entry on this list, this was an actual anime about Sam and Dean Winchester. The stories are a little more out there then the live action show, but the feeling and tone are still there. Jared Padalecki voiced Sam for the entire run, while Jensen Ackles shows up for two episodes. The episode where the boys run into a luck demon could have been an episode of the actual show.

Cowboy Bebop

No surprise this entry being here. The show about the Bebop and the crew it carries is still as fantastic as it was the first time you watched it. On a recent reviewing, I really started to pay attention to the music used. While music was always part of the show, the different genres are perfectly tailored to the episodes. Watching this is like meeting an old friend. One of the few that I will slow down watching as it nears the end, because I don’t want it to end.

These are my picks, so what are yours? Drop me a line in the comments about what anime you could re watch over and over again. If you have not seen any on my list, give them a try. I might pick one of yours in return.
