What is an otaku? An otaku is a term used to describe a person who has an obbesive intrest in a particular subject. This is used mostly in Japan to describe young people who are fans of pop culture. This leds to social skills that are not very developed. What happens when two otaku decide to start dating? That is the premise of the funny anime called Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku.

Are We Now Dating?

Narumi Momose wants to be a normal woman. This is particular hard since she has obsessive interests in romantic anime and idols. She believes that these interests are what are preventing her from having a boyfriend. Running into her childhood friend Hirotaka Nifuji, an otaku who loves gamming, the two begin to form a relationship. Will Hirotaka teach his new girlfriend that otaku such as themselves can finally find happiness?

It would be easy to play these two characters for laughs. However, the show wants to explore a basic human need to be close to someone. Pop or nerd culture has been in the mainstream for a while so it is refreshing to see that people with the same interests can find love. Narumi is ashamed of her obsessions, but this is not a culture view of it. She believes that she is not worthy to find love. Hirotaka is at ease with what he is.

Is Mature Love as Difficult

You want these two to make it work. There are some people who think they are weird or abnormal. Having these interests does not make a person less. A person who might mock a gamer might know everything there is about a particular sports team. This show is an affirmation that everyone can find that special someone. The problems in the main characters relationship is their own insecurities and fears.

There are eleven episodes on Amazon as we see the relationship from the beginning. Do they work out? You will have to see for yourself. This is an anime that is very true to life. Love might be hard, but it is ourselfs who make it so.
