Life is difficult for Aoi, since she has an ability most other people don’t . She can see spirits and other magical creatures. This becomes quite a problem when after feeding a ogre named Odanna, she is kidnapped by him and taken to the spirit world. Odanna says that her grandfather owes him a debt and promised her hand in marriage. Aoi refuses and decides that she must work to pay off the debt in the hotel that Odanna manages.
It is hard not to immediately think of Spirited Away and the bathhouse that was full of different spirits. Aoi is different because she makes the choice to stay in the magical realm. It seems that humans are not particular liked in this world. Luckily for Aoi, she is an excellent cook and food has a sort of power for the spirits. Aoi is not trying to look for a way to escape. She believes that it is her duty to settle her grandfather’s debt.
Taking A Walk with the Master in the Rain
When the world of spirits is introduced, I am always interested first in what type of rules there are and what exactly is the structure of the society. This is one of the more real spirit worlds, all though some can get pretty violent. One of the most interesting choices is to make Odanna not a bad guy. He is stern, but he is respected by his staff and though of as a good master. As the story progresses, you might start to hope that the master and the servant get together in the end.
This show started in April, and Crunchyroll has been showing all of the episodes. From what I have been able to find, the show might be a limited run so catch this one while you can.
