2018 might be known as the year of the fighting game, at lest in regards to anime. Bandai Namco gave us Dragon Ball FighterZ to start off the year and know they bring another beloved anime to close it out. My Hero’s One Justice is based on My Hero Academia, the anime about a school for super heroes. I played the demo at E3 and was waiting for the full release at the end of October. Could this game capture the excitement of the series? The answer is… sorta of.

My Hero

The story line is based around the end of season two and the complete season three. If you play this game and know nothing of Academina, you are going to be a little lost. Pick from a roster of both heroes and villains and see if your quarks can beat theirs. The entire arena is your weapon as you circle and strike your opponent. The action is fast and the controls are simple enough that a new player won’t get overwhelmed. You have support heroes that can come in if you need a hand. Picking the best team up is part of the fun.

One of the main criticisms of the game is that some heroes and villains are way over powered. This is not an issue for me, as I would hope that different characters are stronger or weaker then others. In online play, you can come across someone who is tearing you up. All it takes is the right timing and the right team up to blast past them. If none of the heroes or villains fit your style, you can create your own and see if they have what it would take to go to U.A. High School.

Create Those Ultimate Moves

If Justice has one problem, it’s that the story mode is somewhat lacking. It seems that in fighting games, the story should be minimal, but part of the fun of the show is experiencing a good story. Hit boxes can sometimes be cruel, and that strike you were about to make misses completely. These are small cons, and the sound and the graphics look fantastic. Moving around the arena can be ridiculous fun as you try and dodge attacks.

If you are an Academina fan, this game is a must. For fighting game fans, you might be surprised what is not in the game. Justice looks like it was made for the fans of the series. This is awesome, but I wish there was more to get new people excited about the series. If i see you online, my main is The Stain. My backups are, well, I’ll keep that to myself. New characters and missions are released in DLC. So get those quarks ready and prepare to see if good or evil reigns supreme.
