Cosplay is a beautiful art form. But there are those cosplayers that go beyond just dressing up like a character. They reimagine a character’s clothing into a version that is more beautiful or more interesting than the characters normal costume. These cosplays can be a little hard to describe so I’ve categorized them for you. Again. Heres 5 more types of cosplay you are likely to see at a convention.

Steampunk

A popular genre of Sci-fi, steampunk has found its way into cosplay. Steampunk cosplays are denoted by their signature brown and gold color scheme and Victorian England fashion. These are a re-imagining of the character as if they had existed in futuristic Victorian England.

Casual

Wearing cosplays three days in a row can be stressful and tiring. On a Sunday of many cons, you can see cosplayers going casual. These cosplays retain the main accessories and “look” of a character but, in an outfit they would wear on their day off.

Role Swapped

Couples cosplays are awesome. They are even more awesome when the two characters switch roles. This often involves the prince becoming the damsel in distress and the beauty becoming the beast.

Historical

Character’s look great in the clothing of their time period. Some look even better, wearing clothes of the past. Sort of like steampunk, Historical cosplays take a character and drop them in the fashions of an unfamiliar time period. Unlike Steampunk, fashion can be from any time period and any country.

Original Character

Most cosplays are of well-known characters but some prefer to show off their own creations. Original Character (OC)  cosplays are of a character often inspired by a popular franchise or series. The rest is up to the cosplayer. These cosplays often come from video games where you OC is who you play as throughout the game.
