It’s been a little while since a good horror anime has shown up on our screens. The children who live at the “House” wait everyday hopping to be adopted under the watchful eye of Isabella. It’s dream come true, until it becomes a nightmare. The Promised Neverland explores what happens when children discover their reality never existed.

It all happens because of a stuffed toy. Emma and Norman want to make sure Conny has it when she goes to her new home. What they discover is that Conny is dead, and that she is being sold to demons as meat. Even worse, Isabella is running the whole show. The two must get the other kids together in order to escape.

Someone once said that terror happening to adults is bad, but it happening to children makes it so much worse. And make no mistake, these are kids. Trust into a new world where they must band together, the children of the House could barely make it in the normal world. Their escape attempts reflect that, and it becomes clear that why they thought it would work is because they are seeing it through the eyes of the child.

We hate Isabella as soon as it is reveled what she is truly about. Neverland plays it smart by introducing the idea that there might be a traitor as well in the midst of these children. Suspension falls on Ray, Isabella’s child, but the series keeps you guessing. New ideas are introduced that makes one wonder what exactly is outside the walls.

Childhood is a very hard time, with trusting adults for everything and being let down when they don’t have all the answer. Neverland takes these feeling to an extreme level, but it is a trip down memory lane to a time when you start to realize that adults don’t have all the answers and do not always have your best interests in mind. Will the kids escape? Tune in to Crunchyroll to find out.
