We all know what it’s like to work in an office or work with a less than desirable boss. What does Retsuko do about it? She goes to a karaoke bar after work and screams it out!
Jekyll and Hyde vibes
This Netflix anime follows a red panda named Retsuko who works as an accountant for a Japanese trading firm. Her day consists of being yelled at by her boss Director Ton (pictured left, below) and Tsubone (pictured right,below) and getting pushed around by everyone around her at work. Many people relate to Retsuko because she is a very introverted person. Once you put a microphone in her hand though, she will melt the faces off of her enemies. We wish to be more like her when letting out the stresses of work.
Horrible bosses
Let’s meet her bosses:
Director Ton is a loud, chauvinist pig (literally) who thrives on people knowing he is the boss. He treats the women in the office as if they are lesser than him.
Tsubone is a komodo dragon that makes life miserable for Retsuko because she never does her own work. She “delegates” all of it to Retsuko.
Toilet Metal
Sometimes Retsuko will go to the work bathroom and take out her frustrations when no one is looking. We can all relate on wanting to go to the bathroom and never coming out. She only does this on particularly hard days when Mr. Ton is calling incompetent women “cute” because they are better than the competent ones. Ton is all sorts of problematic and it surprises me that she would continue working at this firm.
The Turning Point
Things start to change for Retsuko when she decides to take yoga at a dojo. The goal was to work out and hopefully meet someone she can marry where she would not have to work anymore. Little did she know that some people from work are also members there.
Washimi and Gori are the most confident women at the trading company; they have a stride that strikes fear in their peers. Washimi is a secretarybird that works as a secretary for the CEO of the company and Gori is a western lowland gorilla that is a director of marketing at the trading firm.
Dance Dance Metal Party
Gori has always admired Retusko but never had the nerve to say anything to her, so Washimi breaks the ice during a yoga session. They start hanging out and eventually it is revealed to them that Retsuko does death metal karaoke at a place no too far from the dojo. They are very supportive of her metal screeches.
Feel Her Rage
During the first season Retsuko searches for love, stands up to her boss, and learns that maybe she doesn’t need to get married to live a better life. She still tries to do things on her own which can be seen in the “Aggretsuko: We Wish You a Metal Christmas” Netflix special.

Many more will come in 2019, as Netflix did announce last year that season 2 would be out. There haven’t been many details on what season 2 will entail, but I can assure it is pure, heavy metal awesomeness. Check out the first season of “AggRetsuko” on Netflix today to be caught up!
