When we think of cosplayers we tend to think about the ones that post to Instagram or make Youtube videos. But I thought I was about time we highlight one that does a different kind of video; comedy dancing. You’ve likely seen his magnum opus, which has gotten 8.9 million views, and if not check it out. The man, the myth, the meme,  the legend, here is the one and only Ghetto Spider.

You obviously love Spiderman in his many, many forms. What is it that drew you to the character and keeps you cosplaying him?

I picked Spider-Man because it reminds me of myself when I was in high school. I had a crush on a girl but was too shy to ever think she would notice me. But just like Peter Parker or Miles Morales, I got to leave all my inhibition at the door when I put on my Spider-Man costume.

What’s it like being internet famous?

I really love it. I feel like I make a difference in the world, even if it is just making a person and smile when they are having a bad day.

How did you discover your passion for dance?

I guess it runs in my family. My mom used to love dancing, and it came naturally to me.

How did the Ghetto Avengers come to be? Did you already know them or were they inspired by your videos?

The ghetto avengers knew each other long before we went by that title. I think we met on Instagram in 2017, way before I was Ghetto Spider. We got to know each other without the masks, which I think makes us all a lot closer.

How has cosplaying changed you as a person?

When I put on the costume, I take on a whole new persona. It’s really therapeutic in a way because I’m naturally a very goofy person. But sometimes it’s hard to be myself around people I don’t know. When I’m Ghetto Spider, I don’t have that problem.

What inspired your first Spiderman video?

My mom didn’t have enough money to buy movie tickets, this was around the time of Spider-Man Homecoming. Spiderman was always my favorite superhero, and I was pretty disappointed that I wouldn’t get to see to this movie I had been so excited for. My cousin had an old Spider-Man costume, and one day I was feeling bored and bummed out, so I went in with the idea of making my own movie. Eventually, I ran out of things to do on camera, so I just started dancing.

If you could dance with anyone in the world who would you dance with?

Michael Jackson Or Chris Brown.

If you could dance anywhere in the world where would you want to dance?

New York Times Square.

Besides cosplay and dancing, do you have any secret talents/hobbies?

I also know how to draw, cut hair, and I love making music and singing.

What have you learned about yourself since you started cosplaying?

It’s really hard to dance, concentrate, and breathe in a costume at the same time.

What is the next store/state we can expect to see you dance in?

Game Stop.

What is your advice for those just getting into cosplay/ dancing?

Always keep your head up never let anybody tell you what you can’t do.
