Legos have been around for what seems like forever. Kids have had fun building and using their imagination to create many different things. Since then, Lego has grown to encompass businesses and platforms of learning. There is not a single person that doesn’t know what a Lego is, or how it works. So, when Lego Masters premiered, I had to check it out to see what this competition was going to hold.

Since reality shows are getting more and more diverse, I wondered how Lego Masters was going to approach the heart of the race. Undoubtedly, teams have the chance to win $100,000 U.S., the title of Lego Master and an epic Lego trophy. But first, they must face all the challenges and build their way through every level and survive judgement.

Will Arnett hosts this epic show, which is fitting given his role as Batman in the Lego Movie. His jokes and cocky attitude bring an element of seriousness and fun, while bringing out interesting facts about the teams as they work. He works alongside the two current Lego Masters Jamie and Amy. Both have been awarded their titles for making the 2019 toy of the year and for creating the smaller Lego sets we see in stores today, so they have a lot of knowledge needed to be adequate judges.

10 teams of two hit the bricks hard on this first episode in order to try and win their first prize, the epic golden brick. The teams are very diverse, with a husband and wife team, a son and father, best friends, cosplayers and even people who have never even built together before. Needless to say, the 15 hours given to build their first challenge was tense. Everyone likes theme parks so that’s where the show has started. Players could grab any bricks they wanted to make their tabletops come to life. The more creative, the better.

We saw a stunning ferris wheel, a light up pharaoh, bumper cars that went wrong and at least one ride that didn’t even work.  Watching everyone go from the drawing board to the physical building of their dream theme parks was fascinating. Eventually it was time to bring two teams to the chopping block, and to hand out the golden immunity brick. Christian and Aaron walked away with the brick this round for their ‘Spaceland’ theme. All of their parts and pieces worked flawlessly, and their backstory didn’t leave anything out.

Unfortunately, Manny and Nestor, the father and son duo, and Sam and Jessica, the team that has never built together, were first on the copping block. With poor teamwork and awareness, the teams were cautioned to do better in the future by taking advice. Luckily for everyone, Will Arnett announced that no teams would be eliminated this round. Next up is the Space Build round starring special guest Mayim Bialik (Amy from Big Bang Theory).

Even though this is the first episode, Lego Masters is a creative and fast paced show that needs to be watched. I’ve had a lot of fun learning about the mechanics and physics behind the building as well as learning more about why these teams want to participate.
