Jumping right into episode 2, Lego Masters opens a new kind of challenge for this week. The goal is to build something that looks good while being destroyed. A little backwards from what Legos seem to stand for, building. The catch is the theme is Space Smash and the creations must have a story (a theme we will be seeing a lot of). The only difference is that one team will be going home this time.

Guest star Mayim Bialik, known for her role in The Big Bang Theory stopped by to introduce the contestants to the types of destruction they would be facing for this round. She gracefully got up on the catwalk and proceeded to drop and epic Lego aircraft down to the floor, just to see how it exploded. The groups seemed pretty excited and after they were released to start their building, Mayim and Will began to make their rounds to check on the teams. Everything seemed pretty business as normal until Mayim took an early leave from the show.

Last week Jessica and Sam were having some problems working together, most likely due to never working together before on building. This caught a lot of attention and it put them in the bottom two finalist last week. Somehow, this week, not only did Same and Jessica have a major blow out, but so did Flynn and Richard. The anxiety became too much as the clock started to run down and Flynn started to panic, causing him to cry.

Luckily his other half was there to reassure him and give him a lot of hugs until his head was back in the game. Sam, however, was not as accommodating to Jessica. With a loud temper, Sam stopped the whole room to belittle Jessica because she wasn’t working fast enough and wasn’t being creative enough. Luckily Will came to the rescue and got the two to hug and make up so they could finish the challenge, but the room was still very tense.

When it was time for everyone to bring their creations forward, most teams had a great story and some very impressive models. My personal favorite was the alien with dynamite that Tyler and Amy put together. Since they worked in secrecy, no one new what they had in store for the final destruction. On the opposite side, Jessica and Sam had a very tiny creation and Jessie and Kara’s creation started falling apart as they got the model to the front table. Emotions were at an all time high at this part. The Lego Master judges are extremely critical of such things in the end.

So far, Christian and Aaron still have their Golden Brick of Immunity and with a calculated risk, decided not to use it on this round. They took a huge chance on building a model that had a lot of negative space but neat curved egg-like design. Sadly, the design did not explode and break the way it needed to. Their design was too creative for this challenge.

For final eliminations, Jessica and Sam were back on the chopping block and surprisingly, Jessi and Kara joined them this week. Sam and Jessica were back again due to their very loud fighting and lack of a model while Jessie and Kara were simply there because their design started to crack as they moved it forward.  These two teams were on complete polar opposite ends of the universe as far as the reasons they were chosen. In the end, the judges chose to let go of Jessie and Kara. Kara left in tears and apologies to her partner, since she believed she ruined the whole experience for Jessie. Hopefully this pulled at the heart strings of everyone else too.

Here’s my final thought on this episode. The challenge was creative and different, giving everyone a big challenge to face, so that is interesting. Unfortunately, I do not agree with the final elimination of Jessie and Kara. Between the two teams to be eliminated, Jessica and Sam should have gone. With such fights that are degrading and lack of work and progress and now a pattern of behavior, the team should not be getting more chances. Maybe this just makes for good TV or good ratings, but I would not allow such negativity because it will infect the others. Maybe they will eliminate themselves due to their problems, but I simply don’t agree with how the judges made this decision. Because of all the fighting and drama, other teams were neglected to be checked on, so we don’t know how they got to their conclusions either. Bummer.
