Just when I think the challenges can’t, or won’t, get any crazier, they do. One of the staples of Lego is the ability to build anything and one of the most popular toys is a car. So this week is the need for speed, where teams will race each other derby style and teams will also get to build bridges and test how much weight they hold.

When teams race their cars down this derby slope, whichever team wins, will get extra time for their next build. Right from the start some teams are unsure of how well they will do, while other teams have been prepared since childhood. The technical brains got super particular with the physics. So, basically, lightweight and reduced friction is good and physics and stuff. No story is involved in this challenge either, but names are!

Mel and Jermaine: The Rad Racer – Heavy back end and well balanced

Mark and Boone: The Green Machine or Lime Time: Free axel and free wheeling wheels, no tires.

Sam and Jessica: Black Beauty – Weight in the back, thin wheels and wheels are not connected but still a very well balanced design.

Richard and Flynn: The Rolling Coaster – Weight in the back, aerodynamic, but has a bigger frame and that could slow them down.

Christian and Aaron: Cream-Sickle Sledgehammer – Eight wheels total, may cause more friction and a wide body design.

Tyler and Amy: Flaming Marshmallow – Large in weight, may not go in a straight line because wheels started to buckle.

The Winner: Mark and Boone 1st

The Green Machine (also known as Lime Time) flew to the front for the win.

Mel and Germaine: 2nd

Sam and Jessica: 3rd

Now for the next part of the challenge. Building bridges. This challenge will be all about strength. Each canyon will be six feet in length so this is a big build and the structures should be flat with the given support it will be tested on. The winner of this challenge will get the infamous Golden Brick. Of course, the Brick Masters also want to judge on the prettiest bridges too and this will determine who goes home.

Since start time was determined by positions in the race, each team will get to come up in increments to get their pieces. Richard and Flynn will be getting the least amount of time and have to wait. Some of the teams have general knowledge and some work construction. Most of the teams went with simple designs that you would see in everyday life but Tyler and Amy specifically are struggling after showing us all of their other crazy designs. This time they might be in trouble.

Mel and Jermaine didn’t meet the requirement to have their bridge flush with the support the bricks were connected to. They automatically got sent to the bottom two and became ineligible for the Golden Brick.

Using exposed studs on the outside of a piece allows for plates to be put over the creation. This makes the item stronger by bonding the pieces together.
