The tree has been taken down and the lights put away. The holidays are over, which means that the Steam Winter Sale has also closed up shop. If you didn’t know, this is when you spend your Christmas money or gift cards to get games at a heavy discount. I love looking at all the choices and debating with my husband which ones we should get. Below are some of our choices of what you should buy when sales happen (The summer sale is right around the corner!)
DLC
Gamers always look for a game they want during the sale, but everything is discounted during a Steam sale. Which means it is a perfect time to pick up DLC for games you already have. My husband got all the DLC for Darkest Dungeon while I decided to add to my renovation tool box with House Flipper DLC. The content I was really excited for was the DLC for Frostpunk. One of my favorites, the DLC adds new modes to an already great game. I wanted to get all the DLC for the Sims, but wow there is alot!
The Game From the Past
I don’t know why it was suggested, but my husband let-out an excited gasp as it appeared. Heroes of Might and Magic III was a game he remembered playing long before Steam was even an idea. A mixture of resource management and turned based combat, he talked about how much time he used to play this. It was nice to see him relive a happy memory (and also get to kid him about how old he is)
The Game Your Friend Wants You to Get
I love The Forest. Some of my favorite let’s plays on YouTube are exploring this scary island inhabited by native cannibals. I had never played the game myself, but one of my friends has it and she has begged me to get it so we could play together. I finally took the leap and got it. I must say that watching and playing it are two completely different things.
The Game You Always Pass On
This does not mean it is a bad game. It just always is up against something that you are more interested in. For me, that was 60 Seconds. It always looked good, but something always made me swipe left. Not this time. Try to keep your family alive after the bomb drops and run into funny and unexpected challenges. The version I got was the re-atomized release with new content.
