It seems that nightmares never really end. Little Nightmares II, created by Tarsier Studios, continues the story of a world run by monsters. This time, the player controls a young boy as he tries to discover the meaning of his dreams. The real world is just as terrifying, but a familiar face might be enough to discover what has turned the residents of  of this city mad.

Mono, a boy who wears a mask, is on the run in the Wilderness. There are dangers out here, especially the Hunters who prowl  this land. In a shack, Mono finds Six (the main character from the first game) and together they make their way to The Pale City. A strange signal has warped people and there are more dangers. Mono with Six, must make his way to a tower that is broadcasting the signal. As they go, Mono keeps dreaming about a door he feels he must get to.

Little Nightmares II continues the theme of the first game that you are small and helpless. The monsters are huge and have supernatural powers. You can not fight them head on, so you must sneak and lead them into a trap. The game is not multiplayer, but you must work together with Six in order to move to the new area.

The visuals were always the strongest part of the franchise. You will find yourself not moving and just looking around the dark area. The monsters are always threatening and each new “boss’ has some sort of trick you must figure out. The game does a masterful job of making you terrified even hours into the game. You are samll, but you are not helpless.

The story has to be discovered through clues and visuals. There are no speeches to tell you what is going on. One twist in the story did not hit me as hard, just because I played the first game. There are collectibles you can get and you must get them all if you want the full story.

Little Nightmares II is a welcome return to a world that is unlike anything before. The first game will always be ranked high just because there was nothing like it when it came out. The sequel does a great job of adding to this remarkable world. It seems this game, like nightmares, can always find new ways to scare.
