Welcome to the Money in the Bank 2021 Review for June 18, 2021

The Usos vs. The Mysterios (Smackdown Tag Team Championship)

Two families battle it out with tag team gold in the first match of the night. If anyone wondered if Dom would fold under a crowd’s gaze, this shows that the young Mysterio is ready for the spot he is in. Jimmy and Jey were vicious, showing some of the aggression from the Uso Penitentiary days. Rey is still showing that age is just a number. Rare that a kickoff show gets an “This is awesome” Some illegal help with the pin and the first title change of the night occurred.

The Usos beat The Mysterios to become the new Smackdown Tag Team Champions

Women’s Money in the Bank

Ladder matches are very hard to summarize, with so many moving parts. Some of the highlights were Alexia using her powers, Natalya playing defense, Liv never giving up and the insane bumps all of the women took on the ladders. In the end, almost all the women were fighting on ladders to get the briefcase, but Nikki rose above them all and took the briefcase.

Nikki got the MITB briefcase.

The Viking Raiders vs AJ Styles and Omas (Raw Tag Team Championship)

Omas started the match, taking out both Raiders before tagging in Styles. Styles was heavily cheered by the crowd and hit a hurricanrana after being thrown by Omas. Ivar knocked Styles down with a clothesline, but was chokeslammened by Omas. Styles was able to survive being the legal man, but Ivar kicked out after Omas threw him from the top rope. The Raiders were able to knock down Omas but the big man recovered and was able to pin Erik.

AJ Styles and Omas  beat The Viking Raiders to retain the Smackdown Tag Team Championship.

Bobby Lashley vs. Kofi Kingston (WWE Championship)

Kofi started out hot, using his speed to stun Lashley. One power move from The All Mighty was all it took to regain control. Lashley fulfilled his promise to get back to business as he threw Kofi around and out of the ring. Kofi could not seem to put anything together and after three slams, The Hurt Locker sealed the deal

Lashley beat Kofi to retain the WWE Championship.

Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte (Raw Championship)

Charlotte let the crowd rattle her nearly on, allowing Rhea to take control. The Queen recovered, using her experience to ground the Nightmare. Rhea battled back, hitting a nasty looking suplex. The Queen tried some submission, but Rhea battled out of it. She pulled a impressive feat of strength pulling Charlotte into a suplex, but Charlotte responded with a moonsault. After inuring Rhea’s leg, a Figure Eight sealed the deal.

Charlotte made Rhea submit to become the new Raw Champion.

Men’s Money in the Bank

The network had a bit of a hiccup during the entrances, but it fixed before the match started. Like before, these matches are a little harder to summarize. Highlights include Big E and Drew clearing the ring to face each other, Morrison flipping everywhere, Ricochet being a DAMN Superhero, Riddle RKO’ing everyone. In the end Big E climbed the ladder.

Big E got the MITB briefcase.

Edge vs. Roman Reigns (Universal Championship match)

This was always going to be about two things: Edge’s experience  and Roman looking to send a message. Edge had better technical skills, but Roman brought the power. Edge decided to target one of roman’s shoulders. Roman began to dicate the match, but the Hall of Famer would not stay down. Edge started to build some momentum, feeding off the crowd. It cumulated in a crossface that Reigns was able to break. Edge speared Roman through the barracade. Rollins attacked Edge after the referee went down, and Reigns hit a spear for the win.

Roman pinned Edge to retain the Universal Championship.

Match of the Night

Edge vs Reigns: A match that really clicked into high gear in the second half.
